What are SSL and HTTPS certificates?
The SSL certificate is a system that allows the secure exchange of data between two networks. Once created, it will be inserted onto your page as the HTTPS certification name. This certificate is becoming increasingly important for websites as it assures end users that the site is safe to navigate and makes sure that the page will rank well in Google's organic search.
In RD Station Marketing, the HTTPS certificates of landing pages associated with an account are always generated after a subdomain and/or domain is set up with DNS propagation. Once generated, it is renewed every 75 days, before its expiration date of 90 days.
HTTPS certificate creation process
Once the landing page subdomain is entered, RD Station Marketing notifies the HTTPS certificate manager, initiating the creation process. The certificate manager will make one attempt per day, for 15 days, to generate a certificate for the domain.
The HTTPS certificate can only be generated after the domain is propagated because it is necessary to check the domain authority. When the certificate is generated, RD Station Marketing is notified and the landing page links are displayed containing HTTPS.
If all HTTPS certificate generation attempts are exhausted unsuccessfully, RD Station Marketing is notified, but no changes are made to the way the links are displayed.
HTTPS certificate renewal process
In cases where the HTTPS certificate has already been created, the process is a little different.
The renewal process starts 15 days before the certificate expiration date so that it does not affect the user in case there are network issues at the time of certificate generation or any other temporary issues.
However, in case of renewal, RD Station Marketing is notified after the first unsuccessful attempt, to allow for verification of the setup before the expiration of the current certificate.
Frequently Asked Questions
I have an HTTPS certificate on the main site. Does this affect landing pages?
The certificate for landing pages is generated for these pages only and is unrelated to your site's certificate.
It is important to remember, however, that Google has started to punish non-HTTPS URLs, which ultimately affects SEO. In addition to data transfer security, this is one of the main reasons why we make HTTPS available for landing pages.
The message is being displayed on my dashboard. What should I do?
Every message contains a link to the domain settings page. On this screen, you can check for DNS configuration problems in the landing page subdomain.
When you access this screen, if the configuration is correct, RD Station Marketing will notify our certificate manager. The certificate will be generated and the message will disappear from your dashboard within a maximum of 24 hours.
